The new Transporter in figures
Longer, wider, further – and an outstanding payload
The new Transporter is 5050 mm long – an increase of 146 mm over its predecessor. The wheelbase has increased from 3003 to 3100 mm, with the option of a wheelbase extended by 400 mm (total length: 5450 mm). Its external width of 2032 mm (excluding outside mirrors) makes it 128 mm wider than its predecessors. The larger external dimensions make for a spacious interior, which can now carry even more cargo or seat passengers even more comfortably.
Transporter design
Thanks to the increases in overall length, width and wheelbase, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has been able significantly to increase the load-carrying capacity of the new model generation. The maximum payload and towing capacity have also been improved yet again. The maximum stowage space in the Transporter with the standard wheelbase and roof has been expanded to 5.8 m³ – an increase of 10%.
Alternative forms of propulsion
For the first time, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will also launch the new Transporter with a plug-in hybrid powertrain (eHybrid) and fully electric powertrains (eTransporter) at a later date – as an alternative to the turbodiesel engines (TDI). Pre-sales start with the 2.0 TDI engine as a panel van with either the short or long wheelbase.
The following three power variants are available for the TDI engines:
- 81 kW (110 hp)
- 110 kW (150 hp)
- 125 kW (170 hp)

* The illustration shows a near-series study. The vehicle is currently only offered for sale with an additional agreement regarding consumption values - standard equipment. The new van has not yet been homologated for the Swiss market, which is why no consumption figures are available. Homologation will take place as part of the market launch.
